Gas Flow Test

Each purge plug is tested before delivery for gas leakages and flow rate with help of an automatic measuring system.

Models

Directional Models

  • Slit type plug
  • Ceramic plate type plug

Non-directional Models
  • Porous type plug
  • Hybrid type plug

Dynamic Models
  • 100% opening rate
  • Increased lifetime
  • Unlimeted gas flow
  • Custom made

Slit Type (S)

Small gas bubbles
even at high flow
rates
Flow rate can be
adjusted with slit
design
Careful cleaning of
the plug after each
heat is necessary

Slit Type (S)

Slit width can be reduced
further by addition of
stainless steel bands for
starting of the plug earlier
even when some of the
slits are clogged.

Wear Indicator

Optical wear indicator is a
porous high alumina refractory
material with 32x32mm square
cross-section at a residual thickness
of 120mm of purge plug. When the
purge plug is at residual thickness of
120mm after several heats of use,
the indicator becomes visible during
cleaning of ladle after continous
casting. Due to porous nature of high
alumina wear indicator, a spot
32x32mm in dark color becomes
visible when observed from inside
the ladle. When the indicator becomes
visible, the purge plug has to be
replaced with a new one immediately.

Ceramic Plate Type (CP)

Pressed and fired high
alumina ceramic plates
ensure excellent performance
of the plug by easy start of
gas flow at initial purging
Less wetting of the
ceramic plates help
cleaning of the plug
after the heat

Porous & Hybrid Types (POR)

Pressed and fired
high aluminia porous
insert protected with
a dense surrounding
castable for non-
directional purging
purposes
Addition of slits in
the surrounding
castable result in
a combined purging
system (hybrid)

Dynamic Plug (DYN)

  • 100% opening rate

As the plug is always closed when the gas
pressure is released, steel infiltration into
the gap is prevented which allows for 100%
opening rate

  • Increased lifetime

Since there is no steel infiltration in the
gap after use, there is no need for a high
opening pressure to spall of the infiltrated
part of the plug, resulting in increased lifetime

  • Custom made

Gasflow/pressure configuration can be
controlled by different settings on the
pre tension of the bottom plate which means
that the plug can be custom made for various
metallurgical conditions

  • Unlimited gas flow

The construction with a gap that grows with
increased pressure makes it possible to
achieve practically unlimited gas flow

Non-Return Valve

  • Prevents steel infiltration due to sudden pressure drops in the line
  • Stationary or replaceable types available

Safety Device

  • Replaceable safety device (multi-use)
  • Prevents steel leakages through purge plug
  • Acts as a distance ring with safety
